Rare Find. Antique Cigar Piercer. Sterling Silver. Engraved. Hallmarked.
Lovely antique silver cigar collectable. Swivel slightly horseshoe shaped mount and ring that would have attached to a gentleman's watch fob or waist coast.
Engraved in beautiful script on the body of the piercer:
"The Albany Society of New York"
"January 14th 1903".
At the base of the rounded cap it reads:
"Pat Jan 24, 1902. Sterling a" with that small "a" next to it.
3 1/4" long. 5/8" wide.
This lovely puncher works, the piercer extends very easily when the cap is depressed.
The Albany Society was part of The Albany Institute of History & Art, and was founded in 1791. It  is one of the oldest museums in the United States and is also the major repository for the region's heritage, with nationally significant collections.
This belonged to my great grandfather, who attended New York Military Academy and graduated in the late 1800's, but I don't know how he came to be presented with this lovely item.
Usable item for the cigar affectionate, and looks beautiful displayed for any tobacciana collector.
Ships in a black microfiber drawstring pouch that matches the shape and size perfectly, all set for gift giving.
* Box in photo not included

Smokers who prefer to pierce their cigars are often those who do not like to abuse the draw. Indeed, the hole made in the stem will allow the smoke to circulate better and therefore not to pull too hard on the puffs. There will also be less smoke. Another advantage: the cigar drill, also known as a perforator, is smaller and more compact than a cigar cutter. Thus, it can be slipped into a pocket without being noticed.
