This vintage real photo postcard features a European military unit proudly posing for their group portrait. Note the two men standing at attention on each side of the group of soldiers. The two "sentries" are holding their rifles up and resting them on their right shoulders. Also note the officer in the middle of the group. He can be distinguished from the other men by his different uniform and cap. These men look like a tough group. However, they could not have known what they would have to face in the future. Just nine years from the date of this photograph (1930), these men would be fighting a war that would ravage their army, their country, and their continent. World War II was just around the corner for these soldiers. Even if some of the men had left the army before the start of the war, they and their families still faced devastation from it's effects. This postcard has writing on the reverse. Thanks to "google translate", I was able to ascertain that the greeting "mili rodicia" comes from the Slovak language and translates to "Dear Parents". Considering that the postcard is written in Slovak, it is likely that the military unit pictured is part of the army of Czechoslovakia. This vintage photo portrait postcard is in excellent condition and is certainly an artifact of European military history.
