A mess / dinner bell made from a converted British Army brass shell case. The clapper has a nice rope-work lanyard.

Would make a good indoor gong or an unusual military themed door bell.  It would also make a good bar bell or a reception bell for any bar or guesthouse or hotel with military name or connection.

It hangs from a short brass chain from an old hook. The clapper is improvised with an engineering nut.

The base of the bell is marked with 40mm 1952 and UK military crowsfoot (broad arrow) mark.

The main part of the bell is 20cm by 5cm.  The lanyard is about 32cm long.  When mounted, the whole thing stands about 11cm proud of the wall. You will need 4 small screws to mount it. (not included)

It makes a nice loud bell-like sound.

This is a gong which would weather outside very well. It would make a great "Come and get it" bell for a garden barbecue and this would be something close to what might have been it's original purpose.

Altogether weighs about 903g.
