This is a GUILD D-40 NT made around 2001.
In 1995, Guild became a subsidiary of Fender and moved its production to the Fender factory in Corona, California from 2001 to 2004.
Later, Fender acquired TACOMA, a manufacturer of acoustic guitars, and since 2005, Guild has moved its production to the Tacoma, Washington plant.
This D-40 is a Fender D-40, which is not very common on the market.
There is a Fender decal on the headback.
Fender made a new jig (mold) based on the Guild design. Therefore, the body shape is different from the Guild Westerly factory era D-40.
The dreadnought style body is made of spruce top and mahogany side back, all veneer construction.
Mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard and bridge.
Depending on the angle of view, cracks (weather checks) in the lacquer on the body top paint surface due to age are quite noticeable.
There are no major scratches or damage that stand out, but there are a few chips and scratches from normal use.
There are also scratches on the back of the body from buckles, etc.
There is a repair mark on the side of the neck at the low position on the 6th string side, but it has been repaired and is not a practical problem.
There is a scratch on the back of the neck from hitting it against a guitar stand.
The strings have been adjusted to a comfortable playing height, with the 6th string at 2.3mm and the 1st string at 1.8mm at the 12th fret.
There is plenty of room at the saddle.
Grover 102C rotomatic tuner, smooth tuning.
Light mahogany body tone with good balance from bass to treble.
This is a solidly boxed instrument with all veneer construction.
It lacks the roughness and power of a 1970s vintage Guild D-40, but this is a good all-around acoustic guitar with a cohesive feel.
