Presented today we have a very uniquely aged Hamilton caliber 689 automatic in 10k gold plate.  This interesting piece is powered by the caliber 689 automatic movement which has been fully serviced. Running beautifully this classic piece is keeping excellent time. This exceptionally clean signed movement is nestled snuggly and securely inside the 36.5mm wide without the original signed crown and 38.5mm hooded lug to hooded lug gold plated case. This case features a stainless steel screwdown caseback with all appropriate labeling and text clear and crisp. It features a high polish outer circumference and a grained brush finish on the case back center area. The case with its 19mm lugs is fitted to the original gold plated signed Hamilton H bracelet with folding clasp. With very little wear or marking this bracelet is in excellent condition. I have no extra links but the clasp does have micro adjust and I would say this could currently fit up to a 7.5in wrist with reasonable comfort. The case itself features a polished finish on the case sides and a brushed finish on the bezel area. The original H signed Hamilton crown is also present to complete the hardware suite. There are some age marks and plate wear from the 50+ years of age and wear that Ive tried to show but nothing thats going to take away from the overall unique look of this vintage timepiece. Under the scratch free acrylic crystal lies what everyone has come to see and thats the moon like terrain of the dial and how its aged in a most peculiar manner. I don't know if it was a manufacturing process defect or just a use of material that did not react well to years of UV exposure but ironically this isn't the first dial of this model I have seen to age like this. Perhaps it was the deep brick like burgundy color because the only others Ive seen age like this were also the brown-red dial. Either way how can you not just love staring at its extraterrestrial like grainy surface features. Surrounding the outter circumference of the dial is a white hashed minute ring encircling the golden raised block polished indices. Angled and faceted the indices catch the light in a very appealing way. To match the minute track the Hamilton and Selfwinding notations are done in a matching white as is the sweep seconds hand. The original golden hands point accurately to the matching golden indices. I have seen lots of forms of patina but this one is definitely not common.       I've tried my best to highlight the condition of this piece with the description as well as photos under a variety of light sources but please read the description and browse the photos to determine for yourself if this is the right watch for you. As a disclaimer for anyone unfamiliar with vintage timepieces I feel the need to also point out that even if gaskets have been replaced that any vintage antique watch should avoid contact with water no matter what the case says. Water tightness cannot be guaranteed after so many years and this must be stated. Any questions feel free to ask. Payment must be made within 24 hours of end of auction and no international shipping.
