FRESH FROM AN OLD COLLECTION.
AN EXTREMELY RARE LATE 18TH CENTURY "WINDSOR" TYPE SEATING STOOL WITH A ROUND THICK CUT SEAT ENDINGS IN WELL TURNED LEGS ENDING IN THE TYPICAL "RHODE ISLAND" STYLE TAPERED FOOT ALL IN A WONDERFUL OLD GRUNGY IVORY WHITE PAINTED SURFACE AND PATINA OVER THE ORIGINAL SAGE GREEN PAINT.
RHODE ISLAND, CIRCA 1790-1810 IN MAPLE AND PINE.
IT HAS A GREAT DOUBLE SPLAY TO THE LEGS.
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE EARLY FORM. WE OFTEN SEE THE MORE COMMON LIGHTLY TURNED PEG LEG WINDSOR FOOT STOOLS BUT RARELY DO WE SEAT AN ACTUAL SEATING STOOL.
IT HAS A HAND HEWN SEAT NEARLY 2" THICK WITH GREAT SHRINKAGE.
THE LEGS ARE WELL TURNED AND SPLAYED BOTH WAYS.
THEY ARE JOINED BY BOTTOM TURNED STRETCHERS AND END IN FULL RHODE ISLAND STYLE FEET.
THE GRUNGY IVORY WHITE PAINTS DATES TO THE MIDDLE OF THE 19TH CENTURY AND HAS GREAT PATINA. IT IS OVER THE ORIGINAL SAGE GREEN PAINT, (SEE PHOTOS).
IT IS IN NEAR PERFECT CONDITION AND IS STILL TIGHT AND CAN BE USED.

The top is 11 1/4" across with about 3/4" of shrinkage AND IT stands 16 1/2" tall.
It is in wonderful condition with the only losses being a couple added nails in the 19th century to tighten the piece up, (see photos). It is tight and strong.
