Lovely huge brass Hall Lantern European candle holder, 18th. cent.
A very decorative and large antique Hall Lantern, with a lotus in the base since it was meant to hang high, and a crown at the top, Northern European, 18th. century.
A lantern as elaborate and large as this would have adorned a high ceiling hall in a big mansion or estate. The lantern was made of brass and bell-metal and has a hinge at the front so it could be opened for change of candles.
Size: 55 cm. tall and c. 63 cm. when hung in the loops attached. The diameter is c. 29-30 cm.
Condition: Extremely fine for type and age, not too polished and with a nice patina. Completely intact.
Provenance: Private Collection of Bjørn Roepstorff, an important Danish castle / mansion collection of Early European antiques. Ex. Bruun Rasmussens auctions of the 1990s.
