Wood Brothers Racing and driver Kyle Petty were in a class of their own in the 1987 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Petty scored the victory in the traditional Memorial Day weekend crown jewel event by more than a lap with his No. 21 Citgo Ford Thunderbird. The swift pit work of the Wood Brothers pit crew helped give Petty a shot at the win, which was his second career NASCAR Cup Series victory for the legendary team. Petty led only 35 of the race’s 400 laps, but took command with a swift pit stop with just 17 laps to go and never looked back.
