Antique Maine Friendship Quilt Top Provenance Bliss Family Dated 1873 31 Signed Squares

Quilt top was started in 1873 for the marriage of Etta Tracy to Charles H. Bliss

Our research shows this family lived in the Durham Maine area

Some of the squares show the maker lived in Brunswick Maine

The quilt top measures 93" by 80", has 36 10" squares plus the bordering half squares.

The top was made over a period of years , some squares dated 1883.  The last two were made in 1953 by a couple Bliss relatives, perhaps to complete the top 

Provenance provided by an attached paper shows names and dates.  This was recorded in 1978

The piecing is all hand stitched.  Many of the handles of the baskets are hand appliqued, a few are machine chain stitched

Condition is good.  Some of the signatures are faded and a bit hard to read.

The history provided by this quilt top should be valuable to anyone interested in Durham local history.
