Wow! In old San Francisco in Chinatown at the turn of the
last century there was a successful importer who ran a bazaar
with all sorts of Chinese goods and wares as well as those of
interest to the Chinese living in Chinatown!

Here is a sculpture of Cashien - the Chinese God of Fortune
and Wealth!  The term "Cash" comes from this association.
Cashien is holding a bowl in his lap.  The Chinese believed
that if you placed a coin in that bowl you would always
have great wealth at your disposal!

This lamp is one of the earliest threaded fixture lamps
made after Edison introduced his threaded bulb in 1909!
It had its socket and wiring replaced decades ago, but
the wood base and sculpture are all original and show
the century old tarnish and wear.

We have never encountered another like it and it is
a fascinating and collectible antique for so many
reasons!  It is an example of Chinese mysticism
and folk beliefs, a relic from the early electric lamp period
and has a metal adorned lamp shade, likely also a later
replacement.

Literally, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity
to acquire lighting, San Francisco and Chinese history!
