Exceptionally rare, original and rather disconcerting, ca1900 Hand Painted Occupational Shaving Mug belonging to a Slaughterhouse Worker – often referred to as a “Slaughterman”.

This fascinating, Hand Painted, Porcelain Occupational Shaving Mug measures approx. 3 1/2" tall and 3 5/8” in diameter at the rim and base. The Mug features a central Image of the interior of a Slaughterhouse, with the Slaughterman standing over a steer with his ax-shaped bludgeon raised above his head ready to strike the steer’s head. A rope looped around the neck of the steer passes through a ring in the floor and is attached to a winch. A second slaughterhouse employee uses the winch to lower the head of the steer towards the floor. Above the Image there appears the name of the original owner – "Lewis G. Carland” - in gold gilt, Gothic letters. There are also gold gilt borders at the base and the lip of the Mug.

The decoration on this Shaving Mug is exceptionally well executed and the colors are bright and vibrant. The Mug carries the mark of the manufacturer - “D & C” (Delinieres and Co.) Limoges, France. It should be noted that Occupational Shaving Mugs with Slaughterhouse scenes are quite rare – we have handled literally thousands of Occupational Shaving Mugs over the past 44+ years and have encountered less than a handful of other Slaughterman Shaving Mugs.

PLEASE NOTE: This Shaving Mug is unconditionally guaranteed to be an original ca1900 Hand Painted Barber Shop Shaving Mug and is NOT a reproduction, reissue or of modern manufacture but an original Mug manufactured and decorated in the early years of the 20th century!!

This rare and original, Slaughterman Occupational Shaving Mug is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, physical damage or repairs of any kind. The ground porcelain is a brilliant white color as manufactured with no staining or discoloration. The Hand Painted Decoration is crisp and clean with no significant scratches, scuffs, discoloration or surface wear. The gilt lettering is a bit worn and there is wear to the gold gilt borders at the rim and the base of the Mug.

A very rare and original, ca1900 Hand Painted Occupational Shaving Mug belonging to a Slaughterhouse Worker / Slaughterman and a fantastic addition to any collection!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:

The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by eBay and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 "packing fee" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
