This is my second auction listing for a nice Dr. Townsend‘s Sarsaparilla. For color, it’s a light green, perhaps a “sea green”. See Pix 11 and 12 with other bottles (not included in this auction) for color comparison. This earlier Townsend is highly whittled and crude and has a bit of extra glass on one shoulder. Chamfered sides and base edges. It’s slightly wider by about 3/8” at the shoulders than at the base, giving it a subtle tapered look. Capped with a nice sloping collar top. The base has a big sharp tubular pontil residing up inside a nice kick-up. This one is one of the rare tubular open pontiled examples of a Dr. Townsends, in contrast to the much more numerous improved, iron pontil or clover leaf iron pontil varieties. Condition is near pristine. A few wispy scratches, a couple super light patches of stain and a bit of dirt. Its condition is fantastic. Embossed boldly as follows:

“Dr. Townsends - Sarsaparilla- Albany/ N Y”.

Its manufacturing period is circa 1845-1860, deep greenish aquamarine, a tad over 9 3/4 high. Lovely medicine overall, again the highlights of this piece are the sharp pontil, overall great condition and character. This is a real stunner. Money back guarantee for any reason.
