This necklace is completely sterling silver base (not cheap chemical tainted metal) with rhodium plating. Rhodium is a metal more valuable than platinum (google it). Rhodium is the same metal used to plate gold when creating white gold. A rhodium plated silver chain will be darker than a regular silver chain, it will not shine as much and will essentially have a white gold appearance which a lot of people are looking for. Rhodium plated chains do not tarnish. The rhodium can eventually wear off but in mose cases, it will last years. We do not consider this to be "plated jewelry" because "plated " is a reference to cheap chemical tainted metal that is plated over with a valuable metal such as sterling silver or gold. Just as white gold is not considered "plated" jewelry, this is not considered "plated".
