WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI-LP-SLEEVE" CD?
Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you.
Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics.
Then, there's the sonic quality: Mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere.
Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded.
All mini-sleeve releases are tremendously limited editions mainly pressed on future orders only and once released immediately out of print. This fact along with other latter features we've mentioned make these titles rare collectibles that sell in the collectors markets for $100's of dollars apiece.

Signed by Ahmet Ertegan to Atlantic, based on their blues roots and Jimmy Page's guitar reputation from his Yardbird days, this first release from 1969 became an instant classic blend of English power riffs and rock plus the Chicago blues they were weaned on. Besides Page's virtuoso guitar style this album introduced the rest of the world to the distictive banshee wail of vocalist Robert Plant, the late John Bonham's thunderous drumming and the sensitive bass and keyboards of John Paul. | ZEPPELIN III - On their first two albums, Led Zeppelin issued a relentless assault of heavy blues and rockabilly riffs, and Led Zeppelin III provided the band with the necessary room to grow musically. While there are still a handful of metallic rockers, III is built on a folky, acoustic foundation which gives the music extra depth. And even the rockers aren't as straightforward as before - the galloping "Immigrant Song" is powered by Plant's banshee wail, "Celebration Day" turns blues-rock inside out with a warped slide guitar riff, and "Out on the Tiles" lumbers along with a tricky, multi-part riff. Nevertheless, the heart of the album lies on the second side, when the band delves deeply into English folk. "Gallows Pole" updates a traditional tune with a menacing flair, and "Bron-Y-Aur Stomp" is an infectious acoustic romp, while "That's the Way" and "Tangerine" are shimmering songs with graceful country flourishes. The band hasn't left the blues behind, but the twisted bottleneck blues of "Hats Off to (Roy) Harper" actually outstrips the epic "Since I've Been Loving You", which is the only time Zeppelin sounds a bit set in their ways. |

With tracks laid down at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles and the short-lived Island Studios in London, as well as various English countryside locations, Led Zeppelin IV was destined to be the band’s greatest triumph yet. Song for song, it is virtually a compilation of their greatest hits. Possibly the biggest surprise yielded by the album was the overwhelming reaction to "Stairway To Heaven," a radio perennial and one of the greatest rock songs of all time. | |

PLUS BBC SESSIONS - DOUBLE CD SET JEWEL CASE SET - Taken from various
London Broadcast venues and carried over the European airwaves by the BBC,
these 1969-71 BBC Sessions are the authorized release of songs that have been
long known and available only via bootlegging. Personally compiled by guitarist
Jimmy Page, this collection captures the band without the use of overdubbing:
live, raw and in their prime. It showcases many songs that were on their way to
becoming rock standards plus allows the listener to hear songs that were still
being worked out. A case in point is the inclusion of Stairway To Heaven,
performed here eight months prior to it’s official studio release on Led
Zeppelin IV. The BBC Sessions are now considered the best collection of live
Led Zeppelin material released to date. Other selections include You Shook Me,
I Can’t Quit You Baby, Communication Breakdown, Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta
Love, How Many More Times, Immigrant Song, Heartbreaker, Black Dog and thirteen
