EMERSON, P.H. Birds Beasts and Fishes of the Norfolk Broadland, London: David Nutt, 1895.

Octavo, first edition, pp. xix, 396, 3 (Opinions of the Press), blue-green cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine, green lettering and labeling on upper panel with image of three swimming ducks, halftone photos by T.A. Cotton. Former owners' names and bookseller ticket on pastedowns. It is sad to note that Emerson, one of the greatest photographers of the 19th century, did not take the pictures, as he had given up on photography as an art by this time. See the Eastman House's Imagining Paradise, p. 194: "Depicts the Norfolk coastal landscape as a holistic ecosystem and in a sense parallels Emerson's first book about the region, Life and Landscape on the Norfolk Broads. ... He constantly cites his own observations as a basis of contradicting expert consensus."

Condition of this book
