This is an original stampless folded wrapper (it's real deal--this is NOT a reproduction) that once contained a now-gone letter that was taken to the post office by the writer and mailed.  It is a "stampless cover" without the original letter.  You are purchasing only the postal portion; I  do not have the letter portion.

ONE of the reasons it is collectible is because of the fact that  the local postmaster applied postal markings considered appropriate for the letter's journey.  In addition to being collectible because the addressee or the town from which it was sent, it is a collectable item of postal history because of the rates, markings and usage.

An 1845 (by docketing) Blue-Green "OGDENSBURGH N.Y. AUG 27" circular datestamp accompanied by a BIG "10" that the postmaster changed to "20" in manuscript using blueberry ink.

Addressed to "Edward Van Salinger, Esquire, Care P. Reynolds, Esqr., 13 Pine St., New York."

Super nice usage of a double-weight rate.

This item is from the collection of Calvet Hahn.

Accompanying this item are Mr. Hahn's original album notes with his description and his analysis.  Many of his covers are the listing examples of the markings and his notes often indicate that.

Mr. Hahn's collection is very fresh to the market.  Most of his items, including this one, have not been offered for sale for 35-50 years.
