[23845] (Americana -
Manuscript Letters - Connecticut). 1962
Two Letters Signed By Long-Time Connecticut Political Activist Louise Foote
Besson (1911 - 2015) with a Letter from a Friend in Mexico in 1945 and Cards
from Ridgefield Watercolor Artist-teacher Herb Olsen. New Canaan
Connecticut. Two chatty, informal letters from Louise F. Besson to her mother
in Vermont, handwritten on her imprinted stationery; "...I have been
collecting signatures for a petition to put Kowalski's name on the voting
machines. If Connecticut can produce 5,000 signatures he will be able to get
on. We have just started and have no idea if this will work. If it doesn't we
haven't lost ground, because Rebicoff will at least know how many Peace-minded
constituents he has in Connecticut. (I think Seely-Brown is a stuffed
shirt)..." and in a letter a week later, "...had a lovely day
yesterday for the World Affairs Center garden party - and today is the same.
The party was heaps of fun for young and old -..."; Besson was on the
board of the Center at this time; these two letters also with family, friends
news content; (with) 2 postcards handwritten by Herb Olsen (1905 - 1973)
watercolor artist and teacher who had settled in Ridgefield - here reminding
Mr. & Mrs. Besson of the Watercolor Club meetings and changes of schedule;
(also) a Oct. 9 1945 airmail letter from friend Cathy Renouf writing of family
experiences living in Mexico, 4 pages handwritten; with news of the death of her
friend, the German miniature painter Marie Louise Regler and of the experiences
of her daughters and herself living and playing in Mexico; some light wear,
soiling to envelopes; in very good condition.
