BROMELIAD BILLBERGIA MACROCALYX

A clustering species with only a few stiff, green leaves, forming a tall tubular rosette. The impressive leaves can grow to 1 meter high and have cream spots, and dusted with silver bands. The upright inflorescence has showy, pink bracts, and large, green flowers. These green flowers are edged in blue, and are produced on mealy white stalks. A frost hardy plant that needs bright light , although avoid direct sun. Grown in a container allow soil to dry out before watering. This species grows easily and is very dramatic as a showy and unusual house plant in a larger container.  Will also do well in the ground as part of a grouping.
Indigenous to the tropical states of Minas Gerais, and Bahia, Brazil.

Prefers a semi-shaded to well lit position.
Keep water in cups at all times.
A species Bromeliad rarely offered.

 Use an orchid type compost, humus and bark for a porous and slightly acid medium. 
Keep soil somewhat dry, water once or twice each week, mist leaves if practical.
Most Bromeliads adapt well to greenhouse, home or conservatory conditions.  
Produces some offshoots and blooms reliably through the Autumn/Winter

Supplied as: 1 healthy offset plant (tubular pup) 10"- 20"+ ht.  
(Note: Bromeliads are mainly supplied as pups, ramets, as divided from mother plants, they sometimes have some roots, not always, this is normal, roots form fast on planting)  
 
Plants are supplied bare root & carefully packed.
