Featured in Michael Fremer's Heavy Rotation in the March 2008 Issue of Stereophile!

Mud Slide Slim is the follow-up to the landmark Sweet Baby James by Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter James Taylor. Released in 1971, it brought about a shift in Taylor's songwriting focus. The confessional songwriter was obviously not comfortable in his new role as a spokesman. His depression, heartbreak, and addiction informed the lyrical content of his work to the extent that he was able to exceed the cultural and personal markers established by his first offerings. Full of references to the road and highway, the songs were put up as a defense against the world, not an embrace of it.

Featuring one of Taylor's biggest successes to date, the Carole King-penned "You've Got a Friend", Mud Slide Slim is presented here in glorious 180g vinyl reissue. Remastered from the original analog tapes and contained within original art and gatefold packaging, this is an important James Taylor record for any audiophile collection.

DOOBIE BROTHERS - ONE STEP CLOSER - ORIGINAL 1980 RELEASE

Album Notes
Doobie Brothers: Patrick Simmons, John McFee (vocals, guitar); Cornelius Bumpus (vocals, saxophone, organ); Michael McDonald (vocals, keyboards); Keith Knudsen (vocals, drums); Tiran Porter (bass); Chet McCracken (drums, percussion).Additional personnel: Christopher Thompson, Nicolette Larson (vocals); Joel Peskin (baritone saxophone); Jerome Jumonville (saxophone); Bill Armstrong, Lee Thornburg (trumpet); Patrick Henderson (keyboards); Bobby LaKind, Ted Templeman (percussion). The Doobie's last album before hanging it up for nearly a decade featured new personnel (in particular hot shot guitarist John McFee). But Michael McDonald was still running the show with his firm grasp on sophisticated pop soul. The title track here could be the best thing McDonald ever did, mating an ebullient tune in his "What a Fool Believes" style with a chorus that borders on power pop. Nothing else quite matches that, although "Real Love" and "Keep This Train A Rollin'" come close. "South Bay Strut" continues the band's tradition of including tempo changes in the instrumental breaks; it's a slick piece of fusion jazz that lets McFee strut his stuff.

MICHAEL MCDONALD - NO LOOKING BACK ORIGINAL RELEASE 1985 WARNER BROTHERS RECORDS  25291-1 - STILL HAS ORIGINAL FACTORY SEALED

Out of Print 25+ YEARS FACTORY SEALED ORIGINAL RELEASES Analog LP  all with small cutout on jackets but contains all the original LP picture sleeve LP insert.

With his husky, soulful baritone, Michael McDonald became one of the most distinctive and popular vocalists to emerge from the laid-back California pop/rock scene of the late '70s. McDonald found the middle ground between blue-eyed soul and smooth soft rock, a sound that made him a star. He initially essayed his signature style with the Doobie Brothers, ushering in the group's most popular period with hits like "What a Fool Believes" and "Taking It to the Streets." McDonald disbanded the group in 1982 to pursue a solo career, which was initially quite successful, but by the end of the decade his popularity had faded away, since he was reluctant to work regularly and hesitant to update his sound to suit shifting popular tastes.

After singing backup on several Steely Dan albums in the mid-'70s, Michael McDonald joined the Doobie Brothers in 1977. He was largely responsible for moving the group away from boogie rock and toward polished, jazzy blue-eyed soul. Prior to the Doobies' farewell tour in 1982, he sang harmony on several hit singles, including tracks by Donna Summer, Toto, Kenny Loggins, and Christopher Cross. As it turned out, McDonald's solo work was a cross between the Doobie Brothers' white-bread soul and Cross' adult contemporary ballads.

McDonald released his solo debut, If That's What It Takes, in 1982. The record climbed to number six on the strength of the number four single "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)," which also crossed over into the R&B Top Ten. In 1983, he had another Top 20 pop hit (and a Top Ten R&B hit) with his duet with James Ingram, "Yah Mo B There." McDonald didn't deliver his second solo album, No Lookin' Back, until 1985. The record wasn't as successful as its predecessor, producing only one moderate hit in its title track. He bounced back the following year, when his duet with Patti LaBelle, "On My Own," shot to number one and "Sweet Freedom," his theme for the Billy Crystal/Gregory Hines comedy Running Scared, climbed into the Top Ten.

Instead of capitalizing on his revitalized success, McDonald didn't release another album until 1990. The resulting Take It to Heart was a bomb, peaking at number 110. Two years later, his fortunes were revived somewhat when he sang on Aretha Franklin's minor hit "Ever Changing Times" and toured with Donald Fagen's New York Rock and Soul Revue. The following year, he released Blink of an Eye, which was ignored. In 1994, "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)" was sampled heavily in Warren G's smash hit "Regulate." By 1996, McDonald had returned to the Doobie Brothers, touring the oldies circuit with the reunited group. The following year, McDonald released Blue Obsession, his first album of new material in three years. He released a Christmas album (In the Spirit: A Christmas Album) in 2001, and began a series of recordings devoted to the Motown catalog with 2003's Motown. Motown Two and Soul Speak followed in 2004 and 2008 respectively.

MICHAEL BOLTON - THE HUNGER - 1987 CBS/COLUMBIA RECORDS FC-40473 ISSUE LONG OUT OF PRINT AND COULD BE ONE OF A THE LAST SEALED COPIES LEFT IN THE WORLD Michael Bolton's decision to put his powerful and soulful voice to its best commercial use. He had already proven himself a great rock singer with Blackjack as well as with his first two solo albums. Instead of beating the proverbial dead horse of the AOR spectrum, he chose to sing in a fashion that would earn him chart-topping singles and albums, Grammy nominations, and the freedom to explore other genres he had passion for. If he has chose to spin his wheels in the mainstream rock world, he never would have had the acclaim or opportunity to sing alongside such greats as Percy Sledge, Ray Charles, Patti LaBelle and Luciano Pavarotti.

Now, to this particular album. The songs shine with expert musicianship, compliments of the better part of the band Journey. Great melodic hooks and harmonies reign throughout. "That's What Love Is All About" is a pop lyrical masterpiece with a message that many people can relate with, and it is sung to absolute perfection. "The Hunger" is an album that has something for both Bolton's melodic rock and pop fan bases, and was a critical turning point in his highly successful and hard-earned career.

TRACKS ARE: HOT LOVE - WAIT ON LOVE - SITTIN ON THE DOCK OF THE DAY (OTIS REDDING CLASSIC COVER A STAND OUT TRACK) - GINA - THAT'S WHAT LOVE IS ALL ABOUT -

SIDE 2 - THE HUNGER - YOU'RE ALL THAT I NEED - TAKE A LOOK AT MY FACE & WALK AWAY

SHAKIN STEVENS - THE TRACK YEARS - AVI RECORDS - 8713 ORIGINAL ISSUE FROM 1983the Popabilly crooner. Shakin' Steven's can truly claim the '80s, in chart terms, were his. Indeed he spent more time on the UK chart than any other artist during that decade, racking up no less than 27 top 30 hits of which four hit the top spot and a further seven breached the Top 5. He's sold in excess of a staggering seven million singles to date. A loyal, predominantly female fan base ensured 'Shaky's' success and it's one that puts him in with the Beatles and Elton John who can claim the same chart domination for the '60s and the '70s respectively -  I went to ALBUM Universe and listened to clips from one of Shakin' Stevens' other collected works.
This ALBUM blew me out! His music is similar to that of Marshall Crenshaw, from the same the same period, early to mid-80s. But Shakin' Stevens was a REAL ROCKER. He was a chart-topper throughout the whole 80's in the UK, Australia, and most of Europe/Scandinavia. Never caught on in the States.
The music is consuming, energetic. His voice is expressive, engaging. He makes you wanna not only tap your feet, but clap your hands and bop around the room!!! Song after song!!! You, too, will be a-swayin' and a-SHAKIN'.... and a-singin' along.

TRACKS ARE - SOMEBODY TOUCH ME - JUST WALKING IN THE RAIN - REBOUND - YOU ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE - WAY DOWN YONDER IN NEW ORLEANS

SIDE 2  - KEEP ON A KNOCKIN - GOT A LOTTA OF LOVIN TO DO - NEVER - TOSSIN N TURNIN
