Gun Fire (Number 55), edited by A.J. Peacock

A5 size booklet, 56 pages. (N6454OS)

Gun Fire was an occasional journal containing articles about aspects of the First World War, and this issue contains a fascinating account of some of the wartime experiences of Victor Cazalet, who left school in 1915 and joined the Household Cavalry at Knightsbridge barracks, and who susbsequently saw service in the trenches on the western front. Victor later became a Conservative MP and died in a plane crash in Gibraltar during the Second World War! The full contents of this booklet are as follows:

Interestingly, an earlier edition of the journal explained the origins of the slang phrase 'Gun Fire', detailing how it was a term for the early cup of tea served out to troops in the morning before going on first parade. In the War recruits in training always had Gun Fire supplied to them, as the work before breakfast was often particularly gruelling.

Condition of the booklet is generally good. The cover has one or two minor scuffs and small ring stain blemish just below the picture, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
