THE SPEED BOY
A Story of the Big League

by Frank J. Hart

Drawings by Charles Copeland

Chicago: Lakewood House, (1938).

First edition.

Pictorial green cloth with a great baseball cover illustration.

A few stains to the upper page edges, else near fine; in a near fine, illustrated dust jacket with creasing along the upper rear panel.

"An interesting paean to professionalism. Speedy center fielder leaves campus unsure of the uprightness of professional game but but becomes convinced. What makes this plot historically interesting is that the team Our Hero joins is the White Sox. And from the names of the players on the other teams (Ty Carr of Detroit, christy Madison of the giants), it is apparent the book is set in the years just before the Black Sox scandal. Anyway, Our hero lead the sox to a world Series title. Very nice drawings by Charles Copeland."--McCue, Page 26.

A nice copy of this scarce novel in dust jacket.
