The M-1 steel helmet was a revolutionary design, with a removable liner housing the suspension and sizing system. It quickly became THE iconic image of the unshaven, dogfaced GI of WW2. The M-1 was issued with a brown leather chinstrap for the liner, most often worn over the front lip of the helmet. This US Army USMC Marine WW2 M-1 HELMET LINER "DOT" BROWN LEATHER CHINSTRAP is in very good condition, with some light scattered surface chipping to the darkened metal hardware, some light verdigris patina to the darkened brass rivets, some light twisting to the ends, and with some light overall drying, crazing, and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the chinstrap is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts a fully intact darkened metal adjustment buckle, sports the original darkened metal attachment hooks at the ends, and is stamped to the famous "DOT" at the underside of one darkened brass rivet, denoting manufacture in ca. mid-1945. A fine example of a rare, original US Army USMC Marine WW2 M-1 HELMET LINER "DOT" BROWN LEATHER CHINSTRAP. No helmet or liner included. Now celebrating over 15 years on eBay.
