Waterproof and breathability explained:
Waterproof ratings refer to the column water height reached over a 1” x 1” area of fabric before water starts to penetrate. 10,000mm = 1000cm = 392” = 32’ – that’s quite a lot of water on the jacket surface before penetration.
Breathability refers to the weight in grams of water vapour to pass through one square metre of fabric in a 24 hour period. 10k = 10,000g = 10kg of water vapour (or sweat!).
