You are purchasing the exact two authentic envelopes ("covers") with Confederate States of America stamps, postally used on Saturday, April 1st (Richmond) and Sunday, April 2nd (Petersburg).

These are two of the most famous items of Confederate Philately.

These covers are well-researched and thought they were separated as a pair after being featured in a July 1980 article in the American Philatelist (written by Brian M. Green) and both being bought by others, they are now rejoined.  They have been signed (in light pencil) on the back by Brian Green and were signed by me as the owner of the pair who reunited them.  I have only ever signed six Confederate Covers (in light pencil) and these are two of them.  The other four were Richmond Female Institute and Virginia Military Institute overall advertising covers.  Though I do not believe in signing (in light pencil) covers, it seemed appropriate for these.  You may easily erase the pencil notations with a soft "art gum" eraser.

The American Philatelist article is shown in the final six pictures.  A photocopy will accompany the pair.

The Richmond cover was featured and pictured in Peter W. W. Powell's book "CSA Markings of Richmond" in the chapter "The Last Days."  A photocopy will be included.

Another unpublished article by Major David C. Underwood, Jr. entitled "The Last Known Cover from Confederate Richmond April 1st 1865" featuring photographs and maps will also be included.  This article featured the Richmond cover.

The Richmond Saturday, April 1st 1865 cover has some small contemporaneous wrinkling and a roughly opened flap.

The Petersburg Sunday, April 2nd 1865 cover has some reduction along the top edge from opening and has old stamp hinge mounting remnants.
