Condition Continued: I've had a fitted protective cover on the jacket for as long as I've owned the book. I took it off to better examine the jacket. I'm going to replace it before I scan the photographs. The protective cover disguises the detachment, as you can see in the photographs. The book is in much better condition. It has very solid feel in your hands. It's solidly bound. I found a few instances where there was the thinnest space between two opposing pages. Absolutely nothing, no page, is loose. The binding of the book is quite decent and there are no cracks or spaces between the covers and end papers. The covers are perfectly bound. As you can see from the photographs, there is some spotting/darkening at the right margin of the front cover and at both margins of the rear cover. There doesn't appear to be any wear at all on the covers, not on the edges, not on the spine ends, not on the corners. The gilt lettering and green design on the spine is in perfect condition. There is some darkening at the spine ends. The covers are of a  buckram cloth. There are a good number of black and white photographic illustrations throughout the book. There are also a good number of drawings. The pages are exceptionally clean. They are also in great condition. I didn't see any creasing or dogeared corners. The only page imperfection I see is unavoidable and should be present in all of the copies. In the instances where a glossy photographic page faces a regular page of text there's a slight reaction of foxing on both pages. It's very mild, but it is there. There are no markings in this book. There are no attachments in this book. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book.

Funk & Wagnalls, New York, 1939. Hardcover in Dust Jacket. Written by Harlan Major, with special chapters by August "Primo" Livenais, Jr., and George W. Garey. Illustrated by F. B. Junghans. Stated First Edition. The first edition is quite rare. And buyers need to be careful because Funk & Wagnalls kept the 'First Edition' statement on later editions, putting 'Reprinted, month, date' below it. One 'first edition' seller is showing a picture of such a book and still identifying it as a first. My copy simply states First Edition and there is nothing under that. I think there is only one other decent copy of the genuine first edition for sale on the Internet. That one lacks a dust jacket and will cost you well over $100.00. I've priced this copy at $90.00.
