Childs Blue Toy 3Pc Tureen
  DAISY
Ridgways Stoke-on-Trent
Staffordshire, England 1890

This childs or dolls toy transferware lidded tureen with underplate, circa 1888 was originally part of a complete miniature dinner set for a doll house or for child's playtime. The set stands 3 inches tall and measures 4-1/2 inches long. The color is a brilliant cobalt flow blue.

Decorated with beautiful Daisy pattern, a decorative example of the Victorian love of nature. It was made by Ridgways, a pottery in Stoke-on-Trent in the Staffordshire region of England. The pattern dates to 1890.

The set is in very good condition with a small chip inside the lid, and no other chips, cracks, or repairs. The workmanship is haphazard, which is one of the reasons people collect it...not fine china and not meant to be; it was made for children and probably considered disposable. The transfers are not neatly aligned, there is runny glaze and little bumps and dips and transfer wrinkle and glazed over frits, original to the making and typical of 19th century workmanship, all adding to the folksy charm.

Children's and miniature antique transferware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after. The transfer is earthy and striking, making a stunning complement to any collection of aesthetic transferware or any early children's wares, and the pattern makes splendid gift for the botanist in your life! We have also listed other early botanical toy table and tea wares. Mix and match for a lovely display! We are always happy to combine shipping of multiple purchases.
