US M1928 Thompson Submachine Gun

This is a nice reproduction of an original WWII photograph showing a US M1928 Thompson Submachine gun.  The infamous "tommy gun" fired the powerful .45 ACP cartridge and could use the 30 round stick magazine, or a 50 round drum magazine as shown.  The drum magazine was somewhat uncommon, it was awkward to carry and slow to reload, but it did see use by US Marine Raiders and various security forces.  An extremely effective close quarter battle weapon, it delivered devastating firepower at close range but was heavy and expensive to manufacture.  A somewhat simplified version known as the M1 was produced that eliminated the finned barrel and Cutts compensator and could not accept the drum magazines.  About two million were produced in World War Two.

Size of photo is about 4" x 6".
