This is so we can continue to offer free shipping in USA and low cost international. Trackable methods cost at least $1.20 more and we prefer not to raise prices to cover this.
We ship hundreds of packages by this method and have far less than one percent lost. If you prefer that your card is shipped in a photomailer with tracking that option is available for $1.50.
