This rare piece of early vintage jewelry is a pin or pendant signed V&B on a back prong, for Villeroy & Boch, practically impossible to find. Pin also has the Mattlach Abbey trademark hand imprinted into the back. The former 11th century Benedictine abbey was purchased by Jean-François Boch in 1809 and has been the company's headquarters ever since. This lovely piece is a cameo in blue Jasperware (unglazed porcelain). Cameo is in slight relief and depicts a goddess holding a peacock (though I find the image difficult to make out). It is prong set in the back in a frame of rope twist design. Pin has a hinged split bail rope twist loop so you can use as a pendant and flip it down afterward to use as a pin. I can find no marking that indicated it is silver, so I am calling it silvertone. Photo is a little darker than the actual piece, but I found if I lightened it up, the design washed out. Fabulous collectible piece is in very good vintage condition. Comes in gift box.
