Heavy quarto, copy No. 1 of an edition limited to 25, pp. xv, 143, 111 color plates under tissue guards with caption info, gray cloth boards quarter-bound in vellum with gilt lettering to spine, gilt-stamped actress in costume on front, top edge gilt, other edges untrimmed. Describes the theatrical costumes of the day including Irish theater, opera and ballet, using well-known illustrators such as Edmund Dulac, Edward Gordon Craig, Charles Ricketts and Max Beerbohm, who also wrote a chapter. The editor, Rupert Mason, says he also used unknown young artists to give them some exposure alongside the established greats.
