With six medals - one gold, three silver and two bronze - the 2010 games were the best ever for Poland’s Winter Olympics team.
The gold medal won by Nordic cross country ski champion Justyna Kowalczyk in the 30 km race was the second Olympic gold for Poland after a lapse of thirty eight years and first ever won by a female athlete.  She also took silver in the individual sprint and bronze in the 15-kilometer pursuit. With three medals to her credit, Kowalczyk is among the heroes of the Vancouver Games.
Ski jumper Adam Małysz, who won two silver medals after several lean years, is also one of the great names of the Vancouver Games.
While Malysz and Kowalczyk were among the favourities in their disciplines, the women’s speed-skating team was not expected to be in the race for the medal. Katarzyna Bachleda-Curus, Katarzyna Wozniak and Luiza Zlotkowska put up a wonderful performance in the 3000m relay winning the bronze medal.
