This was the very first proof $2 coin released in Australia.
The general public was taken completely by surprise when the RAM issued a $2 coin in 1988 to commemorate the opening of the new Commonwealth Parliament House in Canberra.
Nowhere near as many people have these same coins in proof condition though, and you only need to see how stunning the designs stand out on the photos above to see why they're popular and command a significant premium above the normal coins struck for circulation.
The coin, case, outer shipper, and certificate are all included and remain in excellent condition.
