In der zweiten Hälfte der 50er Jahre hatten die USA Elvis, Buddy Holly und Little Richard und hatten den Rock ’n Roll ! Cliff Richard wurde dann zu Großbritanniens Antwort auf die U.S. Rockidole. Sein erstes Album “Cliff”’ enthielt Coverversionen von Willie Dixons “My Babe”, Roy Orbisons “Down The Line”, Carl Perkins’ “Blue Suede Shoes”, Buddy Hollys “That’ll Be The Day” Phil Spectors “Spanish Harlem” und Cliffs erste Single “Move It”, die auf Platz 2 der britischen Charts landete, (und von John Lennon als erste britische Rock Platte bezeichnet wurde). Cliff Richard wurde von Hank Marvin & Bruce Welch’ Instrumentalgruppe The Shadows begleitet.
