This batch are Organically grown, and are Fair Trade We import these at regular intervals direct from their source in India, so can vouch for their quality and freshness. Curry leaf is produced by the tree murraya koenigii, a relative of the citrus family, which grows throughout South Asia and Southeast Asia. The leaves are widely used in cooking, and often, in much the same way that bay leaves are used. Curry leaves are not related to Curry powder at all. They are a herb. They come from a plant called "Murraya koenigii." The tree only grows 6 1/2 to 16 feet (2 to 5 metres) tall. There are about 20 leaves per branch. They grow closely together. Curry leaves are a part of the same family as citrus fruits. Their glossy green leaves are very aromatic, and they have a unique flavor all their own. There is a citrus element, along with something else that’s hard to put your finger on -- some say asafoetida, and others anise. Curry leaves can be left in the finished dish as they are completely edible. You can stir fry these leaves for a few minutes before adding to your required dish, this will bring out the flavour from the dried leaves. Add to your curry dish at the beginning of the process tyo obtain the maximum flavour from these leaves.
