1725 Jewish History Calmet JEWS +
Bible Commentary Holy Land MAPS Jerusalem
Antoine Augustin
Calmet was a 17th-century French Benedictine monk who is most
remembered today for his commentary and notes on the Bible. This commentary was
highly regarded, not just by Catholics but by Protestants as well. Calmet’s
commentary created new ways of biblical interpretation, new methods of
exegesis, and individual prefaces to each book. Interestingly, he vehemently
avoided using metaphysical and mystical interpretations of scripture.
This commentary was
the foundation for many of his other works, including his ‘History of Jews in
the Old and New Testament’. This 1725 edition includes an introductory history
of the church by Abby Fleury, along with seven impressive folding maps and
plans:
·
Map of Ancient World
·
Map of “Earthly Paradise” or “The Promised Land”
·
Map of Israelite’s
journey
·
Solomon’s Temple
·
New Plan of Old
