10" x 18".  Two kilos - over four pounds.  Very heavy gauge.

Boulevard Denfert-Rochereau was so named in honour of a French Commander in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

Boulevard Denfert Rochereau runs through the heart of Cognac passing the town hall, museum and chateau.  Running onto the main bridge, it links the two halves of the city.

The architecturally spectacular city of Cognac had the overwhelming majority of its old blue and white enamel street signs removed and replaced with white on brown - fashionable in the 1970s but, today, drab in comparison.  There aren't any left on today's Boulevard Denfert-Rochereau.  The link at the foot of this listing shows two of the handful of existing examples still in place.

This is a very rare sign.

It is made from vitreous enamel fused onto sheet steel.  Extremely heavy gauge - unlike modern versions this one can't be bent easily.  Very durable.  Convex (domed) with the stunning lettering and piping in bold relief.  Made around 1900, maybe earlier - the very first street signs were made in porcelain or cast iron or carved stone.  They really don't make any like these today.

This is the real thing from  real France.  Not a copy, not made yesterday.

All items accurately described - I do not try and mislead customers by applying euphemisms such as "authentic" or "traditional" or "original" or "vintage" or "style" to pass off cheap repro items as the real thing.
