Wilf CGM, A Gunner with 613, 44 and 617 Squadrons 1936-1944, by Nigel Press

Book published by Lancfile in 2007, 122 pages. Paperback (N5507)

From the introduction: This is the story of the service of Wilfred George Bickley CGM, with the Royal Air Force in the years immediately preceding and during the Second World War, the climactic period of the twentieth century when the world began
changing, a process which has not yet stopped.

These pages try to illustrate the courage and tenacity of a generation as seen in the experience of one young man.

They also reflect the way in which Bomber Command struggled to progress from being ill-prepared with obsolescent aircraft and equipment for the task with which it was confronted, into becoming a force of awesome power. That this change came about was as much to do with the valour of young men as that of technical change.

Whilst this story inevitably concentrates upon the work of three particular squadrons during five years of war the effort of all the crews that flew must not be forgotten.

Condition of the book is generally very good. The covers are clean and bright, the spine is intact and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound. There is a small price sticker on the rear side cover

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
