THE MASTERPIECE OF DAYS OF FUTURE PAST OUT OF PRINT 180 GRAM 1ST EDITION 50TH ANNIVERSARY RELEASE - Compositions and arrangements for pop group and symphony orchestra belong to the British pop scene like the Queen to Commonwealth. The Moody Blues, one of a seemingly never-ending number of groups which sprang up in the North of England, ventured early into new territory in that they undertook an ambitious project which is sought to mediate between classical tradition and modern music and which might very well be described as a real crossover. Their very first long-playing record, made in 1967, was a smash hit right from the start. The album Days of Future Passed jumped into the U.S. charts within a few weeks and remained there for almost two years, bringing the group their first Gold Disc. As the title suggests, the six individual recordings fit together within the programmatic framework of a passing day. This synthesis of orchestral music and original flower power sound, where the past melts with the future, results in Nights in White Satin, a timeless superhit. What is more, the brilliant tonal definition of DECCA's patented Deramic Sound System does not cease to amaze and certainly does justice to this extraordinary recording. Track Listings 1. Limited Edition - ! 180 GRAM PURPLE Double LP! COLLECTED by Moody Blues is a careful selection of the distinctive sound of the band, presenting the different periods the band has gone through. The Moody Blues formed in the early 1960s in Erdington, Birmingham, England. Ray Thomas, John Lodge, and Michael Pinder had been members of El Riot & the Rebels. They disbanded when Lodge went to college and Pinder joined the army. The pair recruited guitarist/vocalist Denny Laine, band manager-turned drummer Graeme Edge, and bassist Clint Warwick. The five appeared as the Moody Blues for the first time in Birmingham in 1964. It was the single, "Go Now" (released later that year), which launched their career. The single became a huge hit in the U.K. and landed the number 1 spot in the charts. The band soon realized that their style of R&B-derived rock and pop was not working for them and decided to develop an original new style, featuring the symphonic sounds of the mellotron and Ray Thomas' flute. Assigned to make a rock and roll version of Antonin Dvorák's New World Symphony, Moody Blues insisted that they be given artistic freedom and be left without supervision. The result was Days of Future Passed (1967), which combined the band's tracks with orchestral interludes arranged and conducted by Peter Knight. The album plus two singles, "Nights in White Satin" and "Tuesday Afternoon", became substantial hits. Their follow-up album was In Search of the Lost Chord (1968). The album was again a big success with hits as "Ride My See-Saw" and "Voices in the Sky". Their next album On a Threshold of a Dream (1969) featured the sensitive ballad "Never Comes a Day" and was their first number 1 album in the U.K. The band's music continued to become more complex and symphonic, resulting in 1969's To Our Children's Children's Children, a concept album. It closes with the fan-favorite "Watching and Waiting". "To Our Children's Children's Children" was also the first release of the group's own founded label, Threshold Records. Released in 1981, Long Distance Voyager was a success, reaching number 1 on Billboard and top 5 in the U.K. The album featured the hit, "The Voice", written by Hayward. The remaining Moody Blues trio continues to tour and to this day the Moody Blues are one of classic rock's most enduring institutions, with world-wide sales of nearly 80 million albums and a following that continues to support the band. The lush melodies and the sound of Michael Pinder's Mellotron were never richer, and the guitar pyrotechnics on pieces like "The Story in Your Eyes" were never more vivid. "Emily's Song," "Nice to Be Here" and "My Song" are among the best work the group ever did, and "The Story in Your Eyes" is the best rock number they ever cut, with a bracing beat and the kind of lyrical complexity one more expected out of George Harrison at the time. Although this collection only produced one top-40 single, "The Story in Your Eyes", anybody who likes the Moody Blues, or just desires a change of pace from the heavy beats and angry cynicism of today's music, would be well-advised to buy this album. Psychedelic Prog-Rock band The Moody Blues were at the height of their career, and in the middle of recording their "Classic Seven" albums, when they released 1969's To Our Children's Children's Children. Inspired by the historical moon landing, the album centers around time, space travel, and children, creating a musically and lyrically profound work.
It's heavy reverb on the vocals, lush orchestration (that includes a mellotron, harp, sitar, flute next to the more "traditional" band set-up) and extensive overdubbing made the songs next to impossible to play live, making this the last of their "big" studio productions.
This Music On Vinyl reissue's audio is based on the 2008 remastering, and includes a lyric sheet.

the use of the Mellotron with the Chamberlin. It proved to simulate sounds of
the orchestra easier and more realistically than the Mellotron.

Other tracks were used to relay the group's feelings on politics, war and

Released in 1978, Octave was the Moody Blues' first release
after a long hiatus after the 1972 album Seventh Sojourn. The group's ninth
album, Octave was Mike Pinder's final album with the group. Patrick Moraz would
replace him, beginning a new era in the group's history. The album contains use
of lounge-style organs and synthesizers in place of Mellotron or Chamberlin.
The album went platinum in the U.S. and reached No. 6 in the U.K.

Jon Davison!
John Lodge, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist
of The Moody Blues, and Rock and Roll Hall-of-Fame inductee, releases a new
live album titled The Royal Affair and After. It features incredible new live
recordings of all his Moody Blues hits, plus special tributes to all his
bandmates, Graeme Edge, Justin Hayward, Mike Pinder and Ray Thomas.
John is delighted to release this album, an album that
encompasses the songs that he describes as being "the soundtrack of his
life," and continues in his deeply felt quest to "Keep the Moody
Blues music alive." The album was recorded live in Las Vegas on "The
Royal Affair Tour," with additional tracks recorded during his subsequent
USA dates.
During the summer of 2019, Lodge was delighted to be part of
"The Royal Affair Tour," with YES, Carl Palmer, Arthur Brown, and
ASIA, and what followed was an epic summer. For John, it was a unique
opportunity to bring his electrifying show to both long-established fans, and
to those new to the Moody Blues.
The album comprises many of the incredible Moodies hits
penned by Lodge, classics such as "I'm Just a Singer (in a Rock and Roll
Band)," "Gemini Dream," "Ride My Seesaw," "Isn't
Life Strange," and "Steppin' in a Slide Zone," plus the
wonderful "Saved by the Music" from the Blue Jays album.
