two hand written letters

Aug 18 & Nov 9, 1942 San Antonio TX postmarks

letters read in part:

today has been one thrill after thrill. I complete pre-flight Friday with excellent grades plus a super ability to take 12 words a minute in code and 10 in blinker, whee! ... this afternoon I slept despite repeated "hot-foots", water fights, and tipping over my bed ... at 5 this afternoon the fateful order was read transferring, this being to primary flying school located at Corsicana Texas ... I just can't imagine in four days I'll be soaring under my own control on the first step to winning my coveted wings ...

oh treacherous one, I hail thee from the mud-flats and tropical climate of dear old Texas ... after our idyllic married life it hurts terribly to think you could be unfaithful with of all things - a Navy man (broken, semi-hysterical sigh) ... I hope 2200 miles won't destroy our "affair" ... It's hard to write now hundreds of planes are roaring overhead on night training flight and the scream of the motors is intense ...

etc.
