This sign is from Nancy, capital of the old Duchy of Lorraine.

Alfred Jean François Mézières (1826-1915) was a leading journalist, politician and historian.  He taught at Nancy University from 1854 before being appointed Professor at the Sorbonne in 1861.  He died shortly after being released as an 88 years old German hostage.

Large - 15" x 21½".  Replaced around 40 years ago by more modern enamel and alloy signs.

The white enamel is in relief, giving excellent definition.

Very heavy gauge.
