This is a beautiful antique (late 19th or early 20th century) sterling silver Vesta or Match Safe by UNGER BROS. The Match Safe features a nude woman floating in ocean waves on the front side, in high relief or repousse. Heavy scrolling is included in the design. The reverse side is smooth with a intricate two-letter monogram. This piece is in very good to excellent estate condition with a rich, natural patina (no professional polishing); there is one very small indentation on the lower right hand corner. The spring or hinge is not working although the lid closes tightly. The Match Safe measures 1 3/4" by 2 1/2" by 3/8". The case is marked on the inside lip on one side with the UNGER hallmark and "STERLING 925 FINE". (see pictures for close ups). A great piece of antique American sterling by one of the finest silversmiths. Shipping is via priority mail and includes insurance.
