The Great Drowned - 1796, An Eyewitness Account

Published by the Littleport Society in 2002, 34 pages. A5 size booklet (N7708PE)

In February 1796 the banks of the local waterways broke and flooded the Littlebrook Fen in Cambridgeshire. It was a major disaster, and this booklet includes the eye witness account of William Stimpson, whose father owned Crouchmoor farm, situated between the Hale Fen Road and the Littleport to Downham Market Railway line. His account is both a fascinating narrative of the flood itself, and a wonderful original document full of social history

The booklet includes both the printed text of Stimpson's account, and a facsmilie of his handwritten notes, and will delight anyone with an interest in the history of Cambridgeshire and the Fens in centuries gone by, and especially the history of Littleport and the surrounding area.

The condition of the booklet is generally very good. The covers have one or two very minor scuffs, but the staple spine is intact, and all pages are clean, intact, unblemished and tightly bound.

When we post our books, we take great care in packaging them - first your book will be wrapped in bubblewrap, which protects the book and even keeps out any rain (in the event that it's raining when the postie delivers it!). Then we wrap your book in stiff cardboard, taking care to make sure all the corners are protected, and finally the package is wrapped in thick brown paper.
