This is a really wonderful group of 4 hand carved tree branches which still have the bark on down the main handle of each.
The tops are carved into BULLDOG heads with painted black faces and noses with glass eyes inset.
Each with a base metal collar and a suspension loop.
Coming down the bark shaft with remains of smaller branches you can see down to the ends.
With base metal REVOLVING PENCIL - DIP INK PEN - QUILL CUTTER - last one is just carved wood into a PAPER KNIFE / PAGE TURNER.
The ferrules are base metal and this metal has staining of age ..all metal parts are stained and I have NOT cleaned or polished any of them.... just as I got them as I like to leave items in " as found " condition where I can.
They have done really well not to have been split up from each other as well as not being broken on the ears.
The dip ink pen does have a metal quill in it but I do not think its correct.. I would imagine it would have been made for a feather due to there being a quill cutter with the set.
The page turner is 7 and half inch long overall.
The dip ink pen is 7 inch long without the nib in it.
The quill cutter is 6 and 3/4 inch long overall.
The revolving pencil is also 6 and 3/4 inch long overall.
I would think these will be Victorian in date with the quill cutter. A very nice unusual set and if you are into BULLDOGS even better.. what a great novelty item.
