A very nice quality late Georgian - early Victorian period horse harness LIVERY badge.
This badge would have been on the leather horse harness of say the CARRIAGE that took the family here there and everywhere. So that other folks knew who was who. Its their livery crest from their coat of arms and all the workers, butlers and the like wore the silvered buttons on their garments.. same applied to the horse harness.. these beautiful moulded badges were attached to the leather harness.
As you can see this has the lead in the back of the badge and the 4 of the 5 original bendy steel wires which would go thru the leather and bend over for attachment.
Can you imagine the harness on this carriage adorned with these livery badges !
Silvered or heavy silver plated you often find.. this one is in great condition. I have not had time to look into the FAMILY related to this crest but some of you will be able to find it I am sure.
Shows a CROWN at the bottom with an ARM with fancy cuff and a ZIG-ZAG design up the cuff.. hand is holding a rolled bit of paper or letter.
It is nearly 1 and half inch tall x just over 1 inch wide....the wires are 3/8ths inch long.
It is in collectable condition with normal signs of age and use wear. No damage to the metal ware from what I can see.

Scale is usually an English 1 penny coin which is 20mm dia....that is just short of 7/8ths inch dia.
