Daring, erotic, witty, provocative-Uwe Kempen knows how to play with the viewers' expectations, how to lead them along in sometimes irritating ways, how to surprise them anew with every picture. Instead of working in perfectly illuminated studios, he chose to stage his models directly in our everyday world. His models are part of our environment. We cannot escape their tempting presence because they are part of our surroundings. Their nudity in our normal world creates and exciting tension which the photographer translates into a wide range of thrilling, erotic emotions. Uwe Kempen likes to play with the feelings and intimate fantasies of the viewer and of the models who enjoy the game of being staged and photographed. Kempen's models are a metaphor for the sensuous element in our everyday surroundings, for the erotic element in our lives. If we are receptive of this natural eroticism, it will always be there to enrich our lives with its sensuality, excitement, and its very special thrill. Uwe Kempen was born in 1960. He lives and works in Berlin. In 1982 and 1986 he won the award for young photography at the Photokina Cologne. His first photography exhibition took place in 1990 in Krefeld. In 1996 he exposed his erotic work for the first time Cologne.
