Up for your consideration is this original, official business letter from United States Department of the Interior General Land Office, California, with a postmark date of April 30, 1942.

Letter is address to Mr. Henry A. Oliver, Mount Eden, California.

In 1868 Andrew Oliver (birth name Andrew August Ohleson), an immigrant from Solvesborg, Sweden and father of Henry Andrew Oliver, came to Mount Eden and purchased 120 acres of potential salt ponds through the land grant.  The Oliver family soon became one of the largest salt producers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Henry continued to work for the family business for many years.

The original receipt number 338583, dated April 30, 1942, is evidence that Henry continued to stay active in the family business.

The receipt is hand signed in pencil by United States Department of the Interior General Land Office Register, Ellis Purlee. It's interesting to note the Oil and Gas Lease on 120 acres of Mount Eden land only cost $60 to lease.

Mount Eden, California, no longer exist as it did back in 1942. Mount Eden was annexed into the City of Hayward, California. However, both Oliver's are buried in the cemetery still carrying the Mt. Eden name.
