This piece features two Carnations on the handle and another grouping of five carnations in the bowl, with both the handle and the bowl also showing unopened blossoms.  The Carnations center the bowl, and from those blooms spread intertwined vines that form a large sinuous basket.  The piece is lightly gilded, but this is more evident on the back; on the front, the gilt just serves to add dimensionality to the floral and vine work.

The server is marked for Whiting, sterling, and with the number 5740.
