RENANTHERA MONACHICA

(Spanish Dancing Girl Orchid)

This species was described by Oakes Ames in 1915.
Renanthera monachica is native to the Philippines. It usually grows as an epiphyte on trees found in open, grassy areas at an altitude
of up to 500 meters above sea level.

It is a medium sized, hot growing epiphyte, reaching 30-60 cm in height, with a 20-30 cm long stem carrying many blooms occurring in the late winter and spring with 6 to 30, non-fragrant, long-lasting flowers. The flowers have a diameter of up to 4 cm. They are pale orange, quite densely covered with irregular, blood-red dots.
Renanthera monachica needs good light levels, however, the plants should not be exposed to the direct effect of the midday sun. Strong air movement should be ensured.
