Ron Hunt is a former second baseman who played in MLB for 12 seasons between 1963 and 1974. He played primarily for the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants and Montreal Expos. Ron was the first player for the Mets to be named to the All-Star team (in 1964, and again in 1966.) He was in runner-up to Pete Rose for the Rookie of Year Award in 1964. Ron is most remembered the frequency of how often he was struck by pitches. During his time playing, no player was hit by pitches more often than Ron. He led the National League in being hit by pitches for his last seven years in baseball, and Ron set a single season records by being hit by pitches 50 times in one season. When he retired, Ron had the highest total of Hit By Pitches (HBP's) of any player in the post-dead ball era. His record of 243 HBP's was subsequently broken by Don Baylor and Craig Biggio. Ron liked to joke that "some people give their bodies to science. I give up mine to baseball." He was also almost impossible to strike out. In his career, he only average one strike out every 13.7 at bats. Ron was truly a special character his signed helmet would be a special gift for any Mets or MLB fan.
