King Crimson COLLECTORS SET
STARTS WITH THE REALLY RARE APART OF THIS SET IS THE King Crimson Beat COLLECTORS
JAPAN OBI 28MM 0180 MINT CONDITION 1982 EG RECORDS RELEASE LP – 40 YEARS OUT OF
PRINT
Beat was released in June 1982 just eight months after the
'80s Crimson line-up debut album Discipline. It marked the first occasion where
a King Crimson line-up had remained intact for a two album stretch and was also
the first album by the band to employ a separate producer Rhett Davies.
The juxtaposition of lyrics heavily influenced by '50s Beat
luminaries Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady, the complex polyrhythmic musical
textures of the '80s Crimson, the strength of the songs, and the cohesion of
the studio performances all helped the album chart upon release in the US and
the UK. Songs like "Waiting Man", "Neal and Jack and Me"
and "Heartbeat" became firm favorites with LP buyers and
concertgoers. "Heartbeat" in particular was an FM radio regular in
the US and even merited a promo film shot for the then-emerging music TV
market, while one of the album's twin instrumental tracks, "Sartori In
Tangier", anticipated the emerging interest in African based rhythmic
styles that would become such a fascination for musicians in the latter part of
the decade. As ever, Crimson was pushing forward, looking for new methods to
communicate internally as a band and externally with an audience. It was,
perhaps, the nearest King Crimson ever came to the rock music 'mainstream'.

Demand for King Crimson vinyl is stronger than at any time
since the mid-1970s. As one of the band's most influential & best-selling
albums this title has been one of the most requested titles for vinyl reissue.
Released in 1974 after King Crimson had ceased to exist, Red
remains a remarkably powerful document of a group quitting at the top of its
game. The grinding crunch of Red appears to anticipate much of the heavy metal
scene whilst the epic Starless brings together several strands of the group's musical history.
Including powerful contributions from Ian McDonald, Mel
Collins, David Cross, Mark Charig and Robin Miller, Red form what is arguably
the definitive statement of the 70s period Crimson. Bill Bruford recently
described the album in just five words: Prescient, short and bass heavy.
Listening to it now, I can’t
believe I was ever daft enough to denounce anything this good: so much for the
certainties of youth - Paul McGee, Word the one that
inspired everyone from Nirvana to Tool, a heavy mutha of a record of a record,
and one that was much overlooked at the time of its release.- Tommy Udo,
Classic Rock presents Prog.
the King Crimson that recorded Red was ostensibly a power
trio, playing a dark, compacted music of crunching intensity. - Mike Barnes,

Band leader Robert Fripp's guitar met with the violent violin work of David
Cross on this 1973 LP, recorded after this lineup had been touring like crazy
in late '72. Wetton's melodic bass, Bruford's maniacal drums and the stellar
percussion work of Jamie Muir rounded out this killer Crimson incarnation; they
do both parts of the title piece; "Exiles"; "Easy Money,"
and the rest of the LP, all beautifully rendered.
